Karen has expertise in supporting companies during periods of high growth, helping to expand their operations while navigating critical areas of risk. She has served as Lead Counsel and Vice President, Legal to some of the fastest growing startups in North America, as well as Director, Legal of a Fortune 500 company. She also served as Chief Compliance Officer and Data Protection Officer for a high-growth company, where she established programs to comply with complex regulatory frameworks.

Karen has 15 years of experience practicing law. She earned her law degree from the University of Victoria Faculty of Law in 2009. She was called to the British Columbia bar in 2010 and to the Ontario bar in 2011.

Karen holds Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) designations for both Canada and the United States. Her privacy and compliance experience includes leading certification and audit readiness initiatives for frameworks such as SOC 2, ISAE 3000, GDPR, CCPA and other U.S. state privacy laws, HIPAA, and PIPEDA.

Karen has also appeared before the BC Provincial Court, BC Supreme Court, Ontario Court of Justice, and the Superior Court of Justice in Ontario. This has deeply informed her approach to risk mitigation. As a result, she offers practical, strategic advice to companies, helping them navigate and avoid costly legal battles.

When Karen is not practicing law, she is trying to keep up with her three daughters. She also proudly serves as Vice-Chair of the In-House Committee with the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers, with a goal of promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in the legal profession and beyond.
